Celebrating Levi
At Magnify of Central Florida, we believe everyone deserves the chance to unlock their potential—and Levi is living proof of that. Thanks to the incredible partnership between Magnify and the Friends of Deltona Library, Levi was able to step into the world of work with confidence, skills, and a sense of humor that’s as infectious as his spirit.
Levi’s journey began in Magnify’s On-the-Job Training (OJT) program, where he learned invaluable workplace skills—customer service, multi-tasking, and money management—while working hands-on at The Book Nest, the charming used bookstore operated by the Friends of Deltona Library. This partnership created the perfect setting for Levi to gain real-world experience in a supportive environment, preparing him for the next chapter of his life.
Bianca, Magnify’s employment specialist, couldn’t have been more excited to work with Levi. “Levi is a funny and quick-witted young man, and I had a blast working with him. Helping him gain more work experience was so rewarding,” she shared. Levi’s humor and sharp mind made him an absolute joy to mentor, and his eagerness to learn was inspiring.
After completing the OJT program, Levi didn’t just walk away with new skills—he became a valued volunteer at The Book Nest. April, a dedicated volunteer with the Friends of Deltona Library, has witnessed firsthand the impact Levi has made. "Having worked with Levi for several weeks, I found he was a quick learner and a great help. His attention to detail was outstanding. His rapport with customers was always friendly and helpful. He will be an asset to anyone who hires him."
Levi’s transformation from a trainee to a volunteer is a true testament to the power of hard work, learning, and community support. The collaboration between Magnify and the Friends of Deltona Library has given Levi—and many others—the opportunity to develop new skills, gain meaningful experience, and contribute to the community. Levi’s journey is a reminder of what’s possible when we provide the tools and support needed for individuals with disabilities to thrive and shine.
Levi’s story is just the beginning. At Magnify of Central Florida, we’re thrilled to announce that we’re branching out throughout Volusia County—bringing our proven employment programs and community partnerships to even more individuals with disabilities.
If you’re in Volusia County and want to join us in creating more success stories like Levi’s—whether you’re a business, organization, family member, or advocate—we want to hear from you!
Let’s unlock potential together.

Passion for Service is Deeply Personal
Tashianna’s passion for service is deeply personal. Growing up with a younger sister who has epilepsy, she saw firsthand the challenges of transitioning into adulthood with a disability. Too often, people labeled her sister before seeing her true potential. That’s why she believes programs like Project SEARCH and Career Camp provide crucial opportunities for young adults with disabilities to gain confidence and independence—opportunities she wishes had been available for her sister.
This year, Tashianna began volunteering with Project SEARCH and Career Camp at South Lake Hospital, where she helps participants build job and social skills. Whether assisting with engaging lessons or supporting them through work rotations, she sees the program’s transformative power daily.
One of her most rewarding moments was working with an intern struggling with severe anxiety. At first, the intern found participation overwhelming. But through their conversations, she learned to manage her emotions in a way that no longer held her back. The most touching moment? When the intern expressed heartfelt gratitude, saying Tashianna had helped her find a way forward.
Volunteering has taught Tashianna invaluable lessons—patience, empathy, and the power of advocacy. She’s watched participants go from struggling to express themselves to confidently communicating and managing emotions in healthy ways.
Programs like Project SEARCH and Career Camp do more than teach skills—they challenge societal stigma. Participants showcase their potential by engaging in community work rotations, helping to break down barriers and build greater understanding.
For those considering volunteering, Tashianna’s advice is simple: Do it. “You’ll make a difference in their lives but grow in ways you never expected.” Her journey proves that small acts of service create lasting change—not just for individuals with disabilities but for the entire community. If you’re looking for a way to give back, Magnify offers a rewarding path of learning, connection, and impact.
Celebrating 20 Years of Dedication
Celebrating 20 Years of Dedication: Jack’s Journey at Bishop Grady Villas
For the past 20 years, Jack has been a pillar of strength, compassion, and dedication at Magnify’s Bishop Grady Villas. His story is one of steadfast commitment, rooted in family values, shaped by experience, and fueled by a belief in the incredible potential of every person he serves.
Jack’s journey with Bishop Grady Villas began unexpectedly, thanks to a tip from someone very close to him—his sister. “I used to work in a behavioral home back up north in Boston before we moved to Florida in 2004,” Jack recalls. “My sister happened to come across Bishop Grady Villas online and told me about it. I applied, and Sister Elizabeth was actually one of the people who hired me. The rest was history.”
Starting as a Resident Advisor, Jack took on the vital role of supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, primarily working overnight shifts. Over the years, he has witnessed many changes, but one thing has always remained the same: the uniqueness of each resident.
“One common misconception is that people in this community are somehow all the same,” Jack shares. “But once you work with them, you quickly realize how different and special each individual really is. No two people are alike, and that’s one of my favorite things about working here.”
Jack embodies the heart of Magnify’s mission—to magnify the God-given gifts of people with disabilities. “The Magnify mission is special to me because it shines light on individuals with disabilities and how, even though they may have a disability, it doesn’t stop them from doing great things,” he says.
Throughout his 20-year career, Jack has supported residents as they set goals, gain independence, and achieve milestones big and small. Whether encouraging someone to take their first steps toward living independently or celebrating a resident’s personal success, Jack’s compassionate presence has made a lasting difference.
His dedication to the residents is deeply connected to his own upbringing and values. Jack, the youngest of ten siblings, has family roots traced back to the Cape Verde Islands off the West Coast of Africa. Growing up in a large, close-knit Catholic family, Jack learned the importance of faith, community, and service early on. Some of his fondest memories involve attending church on Christmas Eve surrounded by his extended family.
Jack cherishes time spent with his energetic sons, siblings, and beloved parents outside of work. Whether playing basketball with friends or relaxing at home, Jack finds joy in the simple moments and the connections that matter most.
As Bishop Grady Villas celebrates Jack’s 20-year milestone, we honor not just the years of service but the heart and humanity he brings to our community every single day. Jack’s journey is a powerful reminder that true impact comes from seeing each person’s potential and believing in their ability to thrive.
Thank you, Jack, for 20 incredible years. Your commitment has helped shape countless lives, and your legacy continues to inspire us all.
Meet Cindy
Cindy was one of the first residents at Bishop Grady Villas (BGV), making our community her home for over a decade. She was cherished at BGV for her infectious humor, deep affection for her housemates and staff, signature hugs, and slobbery cheek kisses.
During her time at St. Mary's Villa, Cindy was supported by our staff with warmth and dedication. We assisted her with daily programs and ensured she made it to her medical appointments. Cindy's mother, who lived nearby in St. Cloud, would visit on weekends to watch TV with Cindy and the other ladies in the villa and took Cindy to church every Sunday.
As her mother's driving became less frequent, our team stepped in to help by taking Cindy to her mother's home for extended visits. Cindy was actively involved in Special Olympics, often participating in bowling, and she played a special role at church by bringing up communion gifts during nearly every weekend mass. Her presence and involvement were greatly valued by all who attended.
Cindy was also known for her culinary quirks—she loved slathering everything with ketchup and jelly and had a habit of hiding bananas under the ice machine. Her playful mischief included a favorite prank: sneaking a six-foot-tall fake tree into the bathroom, placing it on the toilet seat, locking the door, and then crawling out from under the stall. The next person entering the bathroom would find only the top of the tree visible from the stall. If you caught her in the act, she’d give a mischievous grin and say, “Oh man! You caught me,” before crawling back to unlock the door and reposition the tree.
Cindy's vibrant spirit and playful nature were a true blessing to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. While she did pass away in 2017, her memory continues to bring smiles to our faces and a lasting impression on all of us.
Meet Karyl
To truly understand Karyl's remarkable journey, we must first rewind two decades to a pivotal moment in her family's life. It was 20 years ago that Karyl's sister, Cindy, became a resident at Bishop Grady Villas. Like many families who entrust their loved ones to Bishop Grady Villas, Karyl's parents faced a profound concern about Cindy's future. They worried about what would become of her once they were no longer around.
From the moment Cindy arrived at Bishop Grady Villas, Karyl, and her family felt an immediate sense of relief. It was clear that Cindy had found a place where she was not just cared for but truly cherished. Over the next decade, Karyl observed the dedicated work of the Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) at the Villas. Their compassion, patience, and genuine acceptance created an environment where both residents and families felt welcomed and valued.
As Bishop Grady Villas expanded and welcomed new residents, this unwavering commitment to care remained constant. Karyl knew Cindy was safe and well looked after, and this sense of security became a cornerstone of her family's peace of mind.
After Cindy's passing in 2017, Bishop Grady Villas held a special place in Karyl's heart. It was no surprise, then, that when Karyl retired in 2018, she chose to channel her energy into volunteering with Magnify. Her first visit to the office was a moment of serendipity; Karyl felt as though she had come home.
Magnify immediately recognized her commitment, and Karyl quickly advanced to several roles, all in support of those we serve. Her commitment and enthusiasm eventually led her to a full-time role as a Direct Support Professional (DSP), where she continues to make an incredible impact today.
David, our Director of Residential and Life Skills Programs, speaks highly of Karyl's contributions. "Karyl is irreplaceable. She brings boundless energy and embodies the essence of the Magnify mission. Her dedication and compassion are an inspiration to us all."
Karyl's journey from a concerned sister to a cherished team member at Magnify is a testament to the profound impact of our community and care. Her story reflects the deep connections that form within the supportive environment of Bishop Grady Villas and the continued legacy of compassion and commitment that Magnify upholds.
Project SEARCH
Congratulations to this year’s Project SEARCH graduates!
Project SEARCH
Project SEARCH is an innovative program designed to help young adults with disabilities transition from school to meaningful employment.
The core of Project SEARCH is its intensive, one-year school-to-work transition program. Here’s a snapshot of how it works:
Internships
Participants engage in multiple unpaid internships within a host business or organization. These internships are structured to provide real-world job experiences and help interns develop the skills needed for competitive employment.
Classroom Instruction
Alongside their internships, participants receive classroom-based training that focuses on job readiness skills. This includes resume writing, interview techniques, and workplace etiquette.
Skills Development
The program emphasizes soft skills such as communication, problem-solving, and teamwork, which are crucial for job success. It also focuses on specific job skills tailored to the internships and participants' career goals.
Job Coaching
Dedicated job coaches provide ongoing support to both participants and their employers. This support includes on-the-job training, assistance navigating workplace challenges, and ensuring the work environment is accommodating.
Family and Community Involvement
The program actively involves families and community partners to build a supportive network around each participant. This holistic approach ensures that all stakeholders are aligned to help the individual succeed.
Impact and Outcomes
Project SEARCH has demonstrated significant success in improving employment outcomes for its participants. Many individuals who complete the program secure competitive employment, and those who are employed often find jobs that offer career growth and personal satisfaction.
The program also fosters greater independence among participants, enhances their self-esteem, and builds a sense of belonging and purpose. By partnering with businesses and organizations, Project SEARCH not only helps individuals with disabilities but also raises awareness and promotes inclusivity in the workplace.
Insights from the Disability Policy Seminar 2024
Attending the Disability Policy Seminar this year was an eye-opening and deeply impactful experience. I had the privilege of engaging with dedicated advocates, policy experts, and legislators committed to improving the lives of individuals with disabilities. The seminar provided a wealth of knowledge and insights and reinforced our shared mission of fostering inclusive and supportive communities all while offering an opportunity to get a pretty good glimpse of the solar eclipse from outside our conference venue in Washington D.C.!
Here, I want to share some of the key takeaways from the seminar, focusing on Community Living, Disability Funding, and Social Security, which all impact the people we serve at Magnify in significant ways.
Community Living: Advancing Independence and Inclusion
One of the central themes of the seminar was the importance of community living. The discussions highlighted the need for policies that support individuals with disabilities to live independently and be fully included in their communities. This involves ensuring access to affordable, accessible housing, transportation, and community-based services. At Magnify, many of our services are predominantly funded by Medicaid Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS), which provide essential support for individuals with disabilities to live in their own homes like Bishop Grady Villas and other settings and to participate in their communities rather than in institutional settings.
Potential Legislation:
• Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Access Act:
This proposed legislation aims to increase funding and support for HCBS, reducing waiting lists and improving service quality.
• Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act:
This bill seeks to expand affordable housing options for individuals with disabilities by enhancing the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program.
Disability Funding: Ensuring Sustainable Support
Funding for disability programs was another major focus at the seminar. Speakers addressed the challenges of securing adequate and sustainable funding for programs that support individuals with disabilities. This includes not only federal programs but also state and local initiatives.
Potential Legislation:
• Medicaid Improvement and State Flexibility Act:
This proposed legislation aims to enhance Medicaid funding and provide states with more flexibility to meet the needs of their residents with disabilities.
• Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Full Funding Act:
This bill seeks to increase federal funding to fulfill the promise of IDEA, ensuring all students with disabilities receive a free and appropriate public education.
Social Security: Protecting Financial Stability
Social Security is a critical safety net for individuals with disabilities, providing financial support and stability. The seminar highlighted the importance of protecting and strengthening Social Security programs, such as Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI).
Potential Legislation:
• SSI Restoration Act:
This proposed legislation aims to update and improve SSI by increasing asset limits, raising income disregards, eliminating the marriage penalty, and simplifying the application process.
• Social Security 2100 Act:
This bill seeks to enhance Social Security benefits and ensure the long-term solvency of the program.
Legislative Focus: Impact on the Disability Community
During the seminar, several legislators discussed their focus areas that could impact the disability community. These include efforts to:
• Increase funding for HCBS and Medicaid to ensure more individuals receive the services they need.
• Protect and enhance Social Security programs to provide greater financial security.
• Promote policies that support inclusive education and employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
These legislative priorities align closely with the mission of Magnify of Central Florida, and we remain committed to advocating for policies that enhance the quality of life for the people we serve.
Conclusion
The Disability Policy Seminar provided invaluable insights and reaffirmed the importance of our advocacy work at Magnify of Central Florida. The discussions highlighted the ongoing need for policies that support and empower individuals with disabilities. As we move forward, we remain dedicated to working with legislators, partners, and the community to advance these critical issues.
Thank you for taking the time to read about my experience at the seminar. Together, we can continue to make a difference in the lives of those we serve.

In addition to her volunteer work, Maureen is a loving mother to her daughter, who is enrolled in the Life Skills Program at Bishop Grady Villas. Maureen understands the importance of creating a supportive and nurturing environment for her daughter, and the Life Skills Program helps her daughter learn skills that interest her most.
As a parishioner at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Maureen finds strength and inspiration in her faith community. She brings this same sense of community and belonging to her work at Bishop Grady Villas, where she creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere for the residents during their Bible study sessions.

Meet Monica
Monica plays a vital role at Bishop Grady Villas as a valuable member of the nursing care team. Her journey began almost five years ago when she joined Magnify as a volunteer and quickly transitioned into a direct support professional (DSP) for the residents. With a solid background of ten years as a Medical Assistant prior to her time at Magnify, Monica seamlessly integrated into her current role as the nursing assistant lead DSP just two years ago. This transition was a natural fit, offering a sense of familiarity and trust to the residents who already held Monica in high regard.
If a resident chooses to have Magnify assist in their medical needs, Monica works alongside residents, their families, and healthcare professionals. She takes pride in considering the overall well-being of individuals, and she excels in scheduling doctor appointments, checking medication cabinets and Electronic Medication Observation Records, and accompanying residents to medical appointments.
Donna, the dedicated in-house Registered Nurse at Bishop Grady Villas, praises Monica's outstanding contributions, stating, "Monica does a phenomenal job. The doctors and residents adore her. She serves as my eyes and ears, and I can't imagine how I managed before her. That's the honest truth." Monica's dedication, expertise, and compassionate approach make her an invaluable asset to the Bishop Grady Villas community.
Meet Nicole
Nicole has been with Magnify for almost two years, serving as a Villa Manager at Bishop Grady Villas. However, with over five years of experience in the disability community and a Master's degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Nicole has taken on the vital new role of developing the Residential Behavior Services program at Magnify.
Nicole currently works under the guidance of a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) while actively pursuing her own board certification. Once Nicole completes her certification, Magnify can offer the Behavior Services program in-house, catering to our residents who express interest in these valuable services. Services encompass various techniques, including skill-building activities, reinforcement strategies, behavior modification techniques, and teaching replacement behaviors. It focuses on teaching individuals new skills, improving social interaction, managing emotions effectively, and enhancing communication abilities. This can strengthen employment outcomes for residents and/or provide overall wellbeing.
Nicole's commitment to her role is awe-inspiring. Nicole explains, "Magnify has become my home. Driving to Magnify five days a week brings me joy, and witnessing the daily growth of the residents, no matter how small, fills my heart with peace and love. My passion for working with individuals with disabilities stems from a belief that they are unique gifts sent by God, reminding us all of our special contributions to the world. My residents teach me something new every day, and I am forever grateful for God guiding me to them and to Magnify."
Meet Cheryl
At Magnify, our passion is to support, encourage, advocate, and magnify the gifts of those with disabilities. In the bustling community of Bishop Grady Villa, this includes our unwavering commitment to the residents' health and well-being.
Cheryl, a Nurse Practitioner at Cloud Care Medicine, has been serving the residents of the Villas for over two years, leaving a lasting impact on our community. Cheryl understands the significance of a collaborative healthcare approach. She works closely with our resident nurse, Donna, to ensure seamless coordination and continuity of care. By tag-teaming their efforts, Cheryl and Donna offer a holistic care experience that addresses the residents' physical and emotional needs.
Every Wednesday, Cheryl performs routine visits at the Villas. For those residents who are interested, she conducts vital sign assessments, reviews lab results, and assesses overall well-being. This approach allows her to catch any potential health concerns early on and address them promptly.
Her office is conveniently located just down the street from the villas and offers telemedicine, after-hours care, and weekend appointments. This flexibility allows our very busy residents to make appointments around their schedule if they choose to. This person-centered approach provides overall well-being, leading to greater satisfaction and better outcomes for our residents.
Meet Vivian
Vivian is a St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church parishioner and says the Lord brought her to the Villas. For over a year now, she has been pouring her heart into her role, dedicating three or four days a week to positively impacting the lives of the participants in our Life Skills Program. Under the direction of our Life Skills manager, Vivian arrives early to set up the classroom, ensuring that everything is ready for the day ahead. She does a lot of role-playing activities to simulate real-life situations. By engaging the participants in these scenarios, she helps them develop practical skills they can apply outside the classroom.
Vivian's connection with the class is truly special. She cherishes the trust they place in her and reciprocates that trust wholeheartedly. This mutual trust creates a nurturing and supportive learning environment where the participants can flourish and grow.
It is important to recognize Vivian's diverse background and experience. As a Army Veteran who served in Trenton, New Jersey in the 60s, she brings a unique perspective and a wealth of knowledge to the Life Skills program. Her military service demonstrates her resilience, dedication, and commitment to serving others. Additionally, over twenty years as a Post Office employee have honed her interpersonal and organizational skills, making her an invaluable asset to the team.
To show their appreciation for Vivian's service, the LifeSkills participants recently honored her and other veterans during the Veteran's Day ceremony held last month. This recognition acknowledges her contributions and serves as a reminder of the impact she has made on their lives.
Vivian's involvement in Magnify's Life Skills program is a testament to her generosity and desire to make a difference. Her commitment, knowledge, and passion shine through in all she does, making her an irreplaceable team member. The participants are fortunate to have such a caring and dedicated volunteer working alongside them, fostering their personal growth and enriching their lives.

He also participates in Magnify's Life Skills Program, knowing that learning and the importance of staying active and social are lifelong. Greg also loves shopping trips, relaxing in his rocking chair on the front porch, and taking daily walks. His love for community and the thoughtfulness of others is evident after meals when he helps staff clean the tables and collect dirty plates. Greg also volunteers his time, along with many of his neighbors and friends, at Clean the World.
Greg's story is just one of many examples of how Magnify creates a supportive and fulfilling environment for individuals with disabilities. With a focus on independent living skills, Bishop Grady Villas residents are empowered to pursue their passions, maintain an active lifestyle, and contribute to their community. School may be out for summer, but at Magnify, we are using this time to help students work on their future. Our summer Career Camp starts this week and goes all summer long. It promises to be an exciting and informative experience for students with disabilities. The program offers a range of camps to cater to different career interests, allowing participants to delve deep into their passions and learn about the various industries that would be a good fit for them. Simultaneously, our team will work with the participants to discover their unique abilities that might benefit an employer.
One of the camps offered is focused on the retail and entertainment industry at the Lake Square Mall. Here, participants will have the opportunity to gain knowledge in customer service, sales, product knowledge, marketing, and more. They will also learn about the workings of the entertainment industry by discovering how movies are selected and managed and how tickets are sold.
Another of the camps focuses on the healthcare industry and healthcare management held at South Lake Hospital. Students can explore a wide range of careers in healthcare. Participants can observe the daily operations of a hospital and learn about the different roles each staff member plays in providing care to patients.
The hospitality and hotel operations camp, hosted at Loews Universal Hotels, offers participants the chance to go behind the scenes in the hotel industry and understand how the various departments work together to create a positive guest experience. Students will be able to develop skills in customer service, housekeeping, front desk operations, and event planning.
Finally, the recreation, arts and transportation camp is located in downtown Kissimmee. This camp provides opportunities for participants to explore diverse career fields, such as art, music, culinary arts, massage therapy, cosmetology, and transportation. Participants will meet and learn from small business owners to broaden their understanding of the challenges and rewards of owning and operating a small business. At this Career Camp, students will have a unique opportunity to gain valuable insights into the world of customized employment, where the job duties, work schedule, and work environment are tailored to match the specific strengths, interests, and needs of an individual with a disability.
Moreover, Career Camp students are given an exclusive chance to visit critical institutions like City Hall and Toho Water. They can observe firsthand how the community and small businesses work together seamlessly to create a thriving ecosystem and help each other grow and succeed.
Visiting these institutions provides Career Camp students with essential lessons on civic engagement and public service, helping to instill a sense of responsibility and leadership that can serve them well in their future careers. Overall, Career Camp offers students a comprehensive learning experience that not only prepares them for the workforce but also inspires them to become active and engaged members of their community.
In addition to learning about their chosen career paths, students at Career Camp will also develop crucial job-readiness skills such as communication, teamwork, time management, and leadership. They will gain self-advocacy tools essential for succeeding in the workplace and building long-lasting relationships with potential employers and mentors. With so much to learn and explore, Career Camp is an excellent opportunity for students to gain a head start on their careers.

Another month, another capitol
Reflections from our Executive Director
I recently had the honor of attending the Disability Policy Seminar (DPS) in Washington, D.C., as the Executive Director of Magnify of Central Florida and chair of the Florida Developmental Disabilities Council.
During my time in the nation's capital, I had the opportunity to engage with key legislative leaders while representing the voices and concerns of those with disabilities in Florida. In the current climate with debt ceiling talks, important programs like Medicaid home and community-based services are at risk, and these are vital for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) to live and thrive in their communities
The DPS provided a unique platform for advocates, professionals, and policymakers to join forces and collaborate on critical issues affecting the disability community. With an impressive lineup of workshops, panel discussions, and the legislative fly-in at the Russell Senate Office Building, I felt honored to be part of the conversations driving disability rights and inclusion forward.
I am incredibly grateful for the connections made, the knowledge gained, and the inspiration ignited during my time at the DPS. I am amazed at the self-advocates and families who so passionately communicate their importance to legislators and how decisions made in DC affect their lives back home.
Let's continue to work together to make a significant impact on the lives of those with disabilities!
The Magnify Difference
Currently, there is a significant portion of the population consisting of adults with disabilities. According to RISP Infographics, there were 7.39 million people with an intellectual or developmental disability in the United States in 2019. These individuals not only require care and attention but also face other challenges such as limited access to employment opportunities and affordable housing.
One million of these individuals are currently on housing and support waiting lists nationwide, which implies that even basic necessities such as shelter and healthcare are difficult to come by. Furthermore, according to Grantmakers in Aging, there are nearly one million households in which an adult with intellectual and developmental disabilities is living with caregivers 60 or older in the United States. These are adults that DEPEND on caregivers who are seniors and don't have access to support. This situation highlights the urgent need for increased support and resources to improve the quality of life for this vulnerable population.
It is also troubling that over 75% of autistic adults are either unemployed or underemployed despite their talents and capabilities. This trend represents a significant loss of human potential and productivity, and reflects systemic barriers such as lack of accessibility, discrimination, and a lack of understanding of autism in the workplace. As a society, we must recognize the challenges faced by adults with disabilities and work towards creating a more inclusive, accessible, and supportive environment for them. By doing so, we can ensure that everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential and lead fulfilling lives.
In light of the challenges faced by adults with disabilities, it is up to each and every one of us to take action and make a positive impact. We can start by educating ourselves and raising awareness about the issues facing these individuals. Magnify of Central Florida supports persons with disabilities to use their God-given gifts. We believe that the gifts of each individual are what make communities great. It’s our passion to support, encourage, advocate, and magnify the gifts of those with disabilities, and in turn help them share those gifts at home, work, and play.
Our Residential Program provides a safe, supportive, and caring living environment for adults with disabilities. The program provides 24/7 care and support to ensure that the residents can thrive, achieve their dreams, and live a fulfilling life.
The Life Skills Program is designed to equip the individuals we serve with essential life skills. The program offers a wide range of classes and workshops on topics such as communication, finances, personal hygiene, nutrition and more as well as various activities, outings, and events to promote socialization and personal growth.
Our Employment Program provides job training, coaching and placement services for those we serve. The program aims to empower individuals with the skills needed to achieve financial independence and self-sufficiency. Activities include home visits, job shadowing, and community-based activities to discover the settings where individuals thrive, and their God-given gifts can be shared with employers. Magnify of Central Florida's Employment Program has helped many individuals achieve financial independence and self-sufficiency.
Career Camp Program is a summer camp designed for high school students with disabilities. Students learn job-readiness skills, explore different career options, build confidence, acquire new skills, and gain self-advocacy tools to help them thrive in the workplace. Participants can choose between live virtual camps or in-person camps on location, and camps are scheduled throughout the year coinciding with school breaks. This program has been successful in providing employment opportunities that are the best match for each individual’s talents and gifts.

Meet Julian
You may remember Julian, a ProjectSEARCH intern from Hilton Altamonte Springs who was hired at Red Apple Dining shortly after graduation, and whose story was featured in 2021. Lara, Magnify’s Project SEARCH manager, says, “Julian really grew during his internship and was awarded Intern of the Year at his graduation. He was always eager to learn and help.”
So where is Julian now?
Julian is in his second year of employment at Red Apple Dining where he has found a supportive and inclusive environment. He preps food, washes fruit, fills trays with food items, cleans, and takes out the trash. According to his stepfather Todd, “His manager, Carmen, ensures that tasks are appropriate for his skills and that the job provides him with a real sense of belonging, and the feeling of being a productive member of society. He is more confident and has learned to better adapt to sudden changes in the workplace.” Carmen agrees that he has become more confident in the role he plays and the tasks he performs by knowing what he needs to do daily. He works independently and in a timely manner, and is always eager to learn new things.
Carmen explains that “Julian is an overall pleasure to have as a Team Member here at Red Bug and as part of our Red Apple Dining family. He makes us smile and laugh every day and quite honestly; I couldn’t imagine what it would be like without him as part of my staff.” Julian loves getting ready for work and gets so excited to see the Lynx bus pull up every morning to pick him up for his shift. He also loves all the fun social aspects of employment including lunch with colleagues, celebrating holidays together, and even themed dress-up days. According to Julian, "He loves his job, and it’s fun!"
