Talent, our employment program, assists job seekers with disabilities who reside throughout Lake, Osceola, Orange, Polk, Volusia, and Seminole counties in gaining employment
Talent has provided employment services to people with disabilities in Central Florida since 2008. Our Employment Program assists job seekers with disabilities who reside throughout Lake, Osceola, Orange, Polk, Volusia, and Seminole counties. Unlike traditional vocational evaluations, which focus on the jobseeker's deficits, this comprehensive process focuses on skills and abilities, resulting in meaningful employment outcomes.
We get to know the job seeker through conversations and observations with family, friends, and the individual. Activities include home visits, job shadowing, and community-based activities to discover the settings where individuals thrive and their God-given gifts can be shared with employers. We then develop a vocational profile that can be used to build a roadmap for exploring career paths for job seekers.
Along the way, we provide pre-employment educational opportunities, assistance with applying for jobs, interviewing with employers in the community, and developing an employment strategy.
Once a job seeker is offered employment, we act as a consultant for the employer, providing supplemental on-the-job training as needed. After the new employee is stable in their job, we provide ongoing support, as authorized or otherwise arranged, to help ensure the employer and employee continue to flourish in their new partnership.
Supported Employment
We provide coaching services to obtain and maintain paid employment at or above minimum wage. After a person begins work, our employment specialists may assist with orientation, training, stabilization, and the development of natural workplace supports, based on the individual’s needs and the services authorized or otherwise arranged. When ongoing assistance is needed, we may also help coordinate extended employment supports.
Employment Services
Our Employment Specialists provide the guidance the job seeker may need to conduct efficient and successful job searches by identifying work preferences, matching identified job skills with current labor market needs, improving interview techniques, and developing solid resumes with the goal of successfully placing job seekers in the workforce.
Discovery and Customized Employment
Discovery is a functional vocational assessment that identifies an individual’s interests, skills, and key vocational themes, which are used to develop a vocational profile and plan for customized career development. We use Discovery to determine the unique abilities of the job seeker that may otherwise be overlooked in a traditional vocational evaluation. Our team observes the jobseeker at home and in the community and develops “discovery activities” to identify abilities. The result is a profile that allows the job seeker to customize a career plan that best suits the job seeker.
