Passion for Service is Deeply Personal
Tashianna’s passion for service is deeply personal. Growing up with a younger sister who has epilepsy, she saw firsthand the challenges of transitioning into adulthood with a disability. Too often, people labeled her sister before seeing her true potential. That’s why she believes programs like Project SEARCH and Career Camp provide crucial opportunities for young adults with disabilities to gain confidence and independence—opportunities she wishes had been available for her sister.
This year, Tashianna began volunteering with Project SEARCH and Career Camp at South Lake Hospital, where she helps participants build job and social skills. Whether assisting with engaging lessons or supporting them through work rotations, she sees the program’s transformative power daily.
One of her most rewarding moments was working with an intern struggling with severe anxiety. At first, the intern found participation overwhelming. But through their conversations, she learned to manage her emotions in a way that no longer held her back. The most touching moment? When the intern expressed heartfelt gratitude, saying Tashianna had helped her find a way forward.
Volunteering has taught Tashianna invaluable lessons—patience, empathy, and the power of advocacy. She’s watched participants go from struggling to express themselves to confidently communicating and managing emotions in healthy ways.
Programs like Project SEARCH and Career Camp do more than teach skills—they challenge societal stigma. Participants showcase their potential by engaging in community work rotations, helping to break down barriers and build greater understanding.
For those considering volunteering, Tashianna’s advice is simple: Do it. “You’ll make a difference in their lives but grow in ways you never expected.” Her journey proves that small acts of service create lasting change—not just for individuals with disabilities but for the entire community. If you’re looking for a way to give back, Magnify offers a rewarding path of learning, connection, and impact.
